Biography / Administrative History
Bill Dickson is a musician and member of the bands the Rousers, the Backbones, the Praise Jockeys, and the Shambles.
Scope and Contents
The Bill Dickson collection spans the years 1977-2014, with some undated materials, and is divided into two series. Series I: Greg Neu Materials consists of materials obtained through the estate of Dickson's friend and former bandmate, Greg Neu. Materials include audio and video recordings, photographic prints, transparencies, session notes, and Neu's graduate thesis. Recording formats include audiocassette, DAT, DVD, CD, VHS, and vinyl recordings. One notable item is the Rousers' 1981 vinyl single, "Party Boy," produced by MC5's Wayne Kramer. Series II: Sal Capozucca Materials consists of materials Dickson inherited from friend and former bandmate, Sal Capozucca. Materials primarily include video recordings on VHS/SVHS as well as session notes. The collection documents the New York City-based rock bands the Backbones, the Mockingbirds, the Praise Jockeys, the Rousers, and the Shambles. Many of the performance recordings took place at notable New York City venues such as Max's Kansas City, CBGB, The Other End, and Kenny's Castaways. The collection will be of interest to researchers studying the New York City homegrown music scene in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection also provides insight into the lifecycle of bands, as the bands represented in this collection evolved from one another and originated from the Rousers. Materials are arranged by format and alphabetically by artist.
