Scope and Contents
The Jack and Kathy Ryan Collection spans the years 1963–1968 and1988, and includes undated materials. It consists primarily of photographic prints featuring Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye, the Marvelettes, the Temptations, and Stevie Wonder. Also included are handwritten musical scores for the Contours’ song "Do You Love Me," as well as promotional ephemera related to Motortown Revue performances, including a handbill and a poster. The collection documents the rise and influence of Motown music in the 1960s and would be of interest to researchers examining the history of Motown and the mainstream acceptance of Black musicians in the 1960s.
