Cabell "Cab" Calloway III (December 25, 1907 – November 18, 1994) was an American jazz singer, dancer, bandleader and actor. Cab Calloway and his Orchestra were associated with The Cotton Club, New york City, New York, where they earned a permanent position after filling in for the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1931. His style of mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years. Calloway was the first African American to sell one million records for a single song (Minnie the Moocher", 1931), as well as the first to have a nationally syndicated radio show. His band included several performers who would later earn their own international fame, including trumpeters John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie, Adolphus "Doc" Cheatham and Jonah Jones, tenor saxophonists Ben Webster and Leon "Chu" Berry, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Cozy Cole.

The Joel Yarvis Collection on Cab Calloway consists of 3 digital images relating to Calloway, including an autographed promotional photo, Western Union telegram (1942 February 2), and mat with mounted autograph and matchbook (1945). The collection sheds light on the style and use of promotional materials in the 1940s, as well as relations between Calloway and American broadcast journalist, Walter Kaner.

: The Joel Yarvis Collection on Cab Calloway was received by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc., as a gift from Yarvis on August 27, 2016. This acquisition was made during a Scan Day event, funded by a Common Heritage grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
