Alyx Vesey is a popular music scholar and wrote the book "Extending Play: The Feminization of Collaborative Music Merchandise in the Early Twenty-First Century (2023)." She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama.
Scope and Contents
The Alyx Vesey Video Recordings contain 25 VHS tapes dated 1991-1996, with some undated materials. The recordings mostly include episodes of the VH1 show "4 on the Floor" (1994-1996) as well as some VH1 ":60 Album Review" segments and VH1 coverage of the 1994-1995 Grammy Awards. The tapes originally belonged to music critics J.D. Considine and Scott Poulson-Bryant who both appeared as panelists on "4 on the Floor." Notable guests on "4 on the Floor" episodes include Bob Krasnow, Brian Eno, Chris Barron, Corey Glover, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Farris, Jill Sobule, Joey Ramone, John Popper, Jon Secada, Marianne Faithfull, Marshall Crenshaw, Mary Travers, Moby, Moe Tucker, Moon Zappa, Quincy Jones, Peter Frampton, Rob Halford, Ted Nugent, and Thomas Dolby. The collection provides a close look into VH1 programming of the mid-1990s as well as a thorough account of the show "4 on the Floor."
