Biography / Administrative History
Marshall Lytle was an original member of the American rock and roll band Bill Haley and His Comets. Lytle was born in 1933 in Old Fort, North Carolina and learned how to sing and play guitar at an early age. When he was a teenager, Lytle got his own radio show in Chester, Pennsylvania, and it was there that Bill Haley invited him in 1951 to join his band The Saddlemen as the bass player. A year later, the band changed their name to The Comets.
Scope and Contents
The Marshall Lytle Video is a 41 minute digital video without sound taken from Lytle's 1953 home movies. The footage, originally from an 8mm camera, contains images of Bill Haley and the Comets on tour and traveling between California and the East Coast. It features some of the earliest known footage of Bill Haley and the Comets performing on stage.
